Course Description
If you have not been in a class with Chief Jeff Brand then you don’t know what you’re missing. Sign up now to further your fire service educational experience. Chief Brand will provide you with the necessary skill sets to improve your abilities through numerous live firing devices for the Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting
This course introduces the roles and responsibilities of a firing boss (FIRB), common firing devices, and general firing operations and techniques. Although comprehensive in nature, the coursework is not a substitute for the dynamic fire environment. The course provides students with important information concerning general tasks required to be successful. Any opportunity to show students a small prescribed burn or demonstrate how devices operate in the field will promote transferring these new skills to the job.
VERY IMPORTANT: On NOVEMBER 3rd, will be the day students will participate in a firing exercise, with instructor guidance. So please bring the following full PPE’s with you on NOVEMBER 3rd firing day: Helmet, fire shelter, eye protection, brush gloves, nomex jacket, pants, work boots (no open toe or tennis shoes allowed), no short pants. You will not participate in the burning exercise without proper PPE’s.
Please bring a laptop computer with USB port you to class each day. Student materials will be on flash-drives.
