This course contains a mix of online and instructor lead training including live-fire exercises. The students will be engaged in wildland firefighting and firing operations. Students are required to complete the online training portion of the course and pre-course quizzes prior to taking the instructor lead training. This course meets and exceeds the objectives of the NWCG S-219 Firing Operations (2014) course.
If you have not been in a class with Chief Jeff Brand then you don’t know what you’re missing. Sign up now to further your fire service educational experience. Chief Brand will provide you with the necessary skill sets to improve your abilities through numerous live firing devices for the Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting. This is a fantastic opportunity for the students to use fire in the correct manner and application as a tactical consideration.
VERY IMPORTANT: The firing day TBA will be determined by the instructor after the evaluation of the current and predicted weather conditions within the burn plan. Firing day is NOT guaranteed, personnel safety and current weather conditions will be the determining factors! You will have to sign a liability waiver before you will be allowed to participate in the live burn.
Students will participate in a firing exercise, with instructor guidance/mentoring. So please bring the following PPE’s with you on the designated firing day: Helmet, fire shelter, eye protection, brush gloves, Nomex jacket, pants, work boots (no open toe or tennis shoes allowed), no short pants.
Hydration is critically important for everyone attending. Please begin to hydrate 2 days prior to this class and bring lunch and plenty of water and lunch for the two-day burn exercises.
