The “Fire Officer” series of courses is now taught under the new curriculum from California State Fire Training.
Any of the Fire Officer series courses (Fire Officer 2/3/4) MUST be taken IN ORDER
Students taking the Fire Officer 3B course will utilize the task book used in Fire Officer 3A. Please remember to bring your task book for the entire course.
The instructor will provide expectations outlining the requirements for completion of all task book activities and any associated due dates.
Course Description:
This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for a Fire Officer 3 to safely, effectively, and competently develop a model plan for continuous organizational improvement, direct a department record management system, analyze and interpret records and data, evaluate an inspection program, develop a community awareness program, develop a budget management system, develop a division or departmental budget, and
describe the process for ensuring competitive bidding.
Designed For:
Personnel preparing to pursue Fire Officer 3 certification or anyone who performs the duties of a Fire Officer 3 within their agency.
Prerequisites:
Meet one of the following requirements:
• Meet the education requirements of an OSFM Company Officer or
Fire Officer 2
• Currently in the position of Chief Fire Officer (acting does not apply)
Fire Officer 3A: Human Resource Management
Standard:
Complete all required activities and formative tests.
Complete all summative tests with a minimum score of 80%.
Course Hours (Total): 54 hours
- 20 hours of in-class lecture
- 16 hours of in-class application and in-class testing
- 18 hours of task book application, outside of class

Course Details:
The class will begin at 0800. The dress is casual yet respectful, and uniforms are acceptable as well.
Like all Elite Command Training courses, please bring a laptop computer with a USB Type-A port to class each day. Your student materials will be on flash drives that you’ll receive on the first day.
